It's not significant when considering one change and account. It's when you add it up over many, many accounts that the cost mounts up. And the cost is not just the cost of a hard drive. You increase the average size of an account: you need more hardware, you need more power to run the hardware, you need more personnel hours to operate and maintain the hardware, you need a place to PUT the hardware, you need your programmers to code the new game feature that the hardware is for, you need to test and debug the new feature, you need to advertise the new feature. Also more data to process and manipulate, load times increase and everything slows down a bit. So maybe you need to upgrade other hardware to speed things back up. Maybe the new feature increases expenses by a few cents or fractions of cents per account. But there are a lot of accounts and the expenses are ongoing. (Turbine has to pay their power bill or nobody's playing.) My point is that a successful business cannot assume that ANY cost is insignificant or it will soon not be successful. And if Turbine is not a successful business, then nobody's going to be playing whether Turbine pays the power bill or not.

I do know that those who preordered Mirkwood way back got the shared vault. Others had to buy it if I remember right.

As I recall, the actual deal was, buy the Adventurers Pack and get shared storage and then Mirkwood was free. In practice it meant that you got all of it for a single fee equal to the cost of Mirkwood if you did so before launch, but technically, you were buying the AP, not Mirkwood.

Had to look it up, was a pretty good deal to me at the time. Mirkwood was free for anyone who had a multi-month sub. As I have been a subscriber for almost 4 years, I got Mirkwood free. (Really wish I had the money for the lifetime) The adventure pack was extra. Same price, so in my eyes, the deal made sense.

Lifetime subs had to buy the AP to get Mirkwood free, as they had no sub to renew. F2P didn't exist at the time, so the deal was to get Lifers to buy the AP, because if they didn't, they would be paying the same price for Mirkwood anyway. And to get anyone else into a multi-month sub. Still a good deal.

Show me ANY software company that DOESN'T do this. (Most goods companies do it as well, as do entertainment companies, etc. etc.) "Coming soon" is standard commercial practice. Sometimes, the item never gets released at all, hence the term "vaporware" that has been in use for at least 40 years.

It is typical of Turbine to advertise something that has not been released yet. Similarly, since the only way to get the bag will probably be pre-ordering RoR until the expansion is released it shows that Turbine are already trying to force customers to buy the expansion as soon as it is pre-order'able.

Watch out peeps! Make sure you know what you are buying before you buy it! I certainly won't make the same mistake with RoR as I did with Isengard.

I have no problem pre ordering it. For all it's problems(and it's got some!) this is my favorite MMO that I have ever played and I'll gladly pay for a pre order.

They weren't advertising it, it was mentioned in the release notes because during this update the mechanics for the bag was included. I don't think of it as advertising but as a brief note to stave off the rampant speculation that would have ensued if they didn't say anything and someone had noticed it in game.

This way they gave us a little bit of the whole story (it would be part of the pre-release of RoR). I applaud them for giving us what information they could so far from the release of the x-pack and I wait patiently for more. There's no reason to get our panties in a bunch until we get the whole story, then we can decide how we truly feel about it.

I look at it just like the store exclusive storage (vault, shared storage), you're going to have to pay money or TP for it, there is no difference.

It was ADVERTISED, if they were in the habit of 'mentioning' various stages of implementation of a new game feature/instance/etc they would have 'mentioned' the level 90 doors in Bree turning into a new Deed in the Release Notes of Update 6 but they never did.

Update 7 was anemically thin on anything new (one very short skirmish with low level rewards) so they purposely put in the 6th bag advertisement to generate some sort of positive buzz. It even had it's very own category in the Release Notes...
