How do you know that "they did not even bother to try and frame it in such a way that it is somewhat lore-appropriate"? Not that they finally didn't manage to do it lore-appropriate, but "didn't even bother"? As if they didn't care?
Isn't that obvious? When their community manager comes on in defence of the lore accusations and says (I paraphrase), "Well, logging in is breaking the lore so deal with it" then I'm pretty sure they are not bothering to try and frame it in a lore appropriate way.

I think in order for you to appreciate my position, you would need to understand the concept of diminishing returns as it applies to suspension of disbelief.
