So, I just transferred a character from Crickhollow to Landroval and thought I would share my experience with you all.

It was extremely smooth. I just followed the instructions on the transfer screen, choosing to take one character and the shared storage to the new world. The last screen said the transfer was in progress and I could expect an email when it was done. I received the confirmation email within minutes - I was shocked at how fast it was.

I logged into Landy and lo and behold, there was my guy with all his stuff (standing right where I left him on Crickhollow, of course). Now here is the part that is a little confusing and I don't know if the devs would want to know about it or not - you guys tell me what you think. The character I decided to transfer to Ladroval is named Darkthorne. I had previously logged onto Landroval with another toon and set up a friends list to check name availability and discovered there was a level 1 Darkthorne that had not been played in at least a couple years so I knew I would get the name and the original should end up with Darkthorne-1. So I logged in and confirmed that I was indeed Darkthorne but on my friends list there was now a Darkthorne at the top of the list showing as online that was my level and location. It has to be me, right? Well you are not supposed to be able to add yourself to your own friends list. I then removed the character from my friends list and then tried to add "Darkthorne" again. I was greeted with the expected error of "You cannot add yourself". But for the heck of it I tried to see if I could add "Darkthorne-1" and the name popped back into the friends list as "Darkthorne" (without the -1)! It was still showing my level and location but it can't be me, I thought to myself, because you can't add yourself AND I typed the -1 but it still had my stats. I don't really know what this means. Will the -1 character continue to show my stats until they log in the original toon someday (if ever). Will there be a name conflict when/if they ever decide to log in again?

I'm not worried about it because this was just a practice run with a low level toon but I'm here to say that the transfer itself was a breeze! Nice work team!
I'd love to hear some of your thoughts on what might have happened and whether I should bug it.

This happened to me on one or two of mine. I did a bug report on it; hopefully others do the same if they encounter it. It wasn't really a big deal, but it was confusing!

ETA: I just noticed when I logged on my other character on the server, it shows my char in the friend's list as Name-1 while offline (stats indicate it is mine, not the one I booted), even though she's definitely just Name. I had not thought to look at that, so I thought I would add it to this now.

I transferred some low level characters, & everything went fine. Quite easy. Of course, they didn't have much, but it seemed like a successful test.

I transferred a low level character from Brandy to Gladden so the coin and marks would come over. I just checked transfer again (a couple hours later) and no worlds show up to transfer from or to - not US, not EU, and I have characters on one of the surviving EU worlds as well as 12+ on Gladden. It's simply blank.


EDIT: I tried again a bit later and the worlds showed up again. Odd.

I transfered some low lvl toons from several worlds and it was fine. Then i tried to get my main toons out of brandy and it horribly failed, never got a mail, I tried 3 times and all of them failed.

First i tried to get all 10 characters out of brandy with shared storage. Fail after 12 hours.
Second only 3 toons with shared storage. Fail
Third, only one toon and its been an hour with no mail or anything...

Really sad :/

I tried only 1 character no shared storage and it got transfered almost immediately.. I guess ill have to do it one by one O.o

What happens if you try to transfer 2 creeps onto a server where you don't have 2 slots open? Do characters you already had get deleted?

I can't remember how many creeps I had on the server to which I transferred 2 creeps, and I didn't get any messages. The creeps did get transferred. I thought I had a second creep above rank 1 there but it might be my bad memory. Just don't want anything to get deleted.

I checked my freeps and sadly didn't see any new creeps listed in the "free people" character list (which would have been AWESOME).

Should there have been a message indicating there weren't enough creep spots left if that was the case?

The worlds that are closing are not transferring at this time. Just the 5 US and 5 EU ones that are staying.

What happens if you try to transfer 2 creeps onto a server where you don't have 2 slots open? Do characters you already had get deleted?

No characters get deleted. You may now have multiple, there'll be a drop down arrow at character select screen to choose which you want to log in on.

The transfers off closing worlds are not open yet.

Edit 2: actually the option to change the email address might have been through the My Turbine account area - I'll go check. Yeah it's in the Account Profile tab when you log in at https://myaccount.turbine.com/index.php

I've changed all email addresses on my account through that link (or rather customer support did that for me, cause due to a weird coding error in the change page it doesn't except loads of special characters in the password field and guess what? I had loads of special characters in my password..... long story, they're aware of it...), but I didn't receive the last newsletter on the accounts where they changed my email address. Instead I'm still receiving the newsletter on my old email address (luckily it's an email address I still have...). I did receive the newsletters on the other accounts I made with other email addresses that didn't change...

Did you receive yesterday's newsletter on the new email address?

No characters get deleted. You may now have multiple, there'll be a drop down arrow at character select screen to choose which you want to log in on.

As a test, I ended up with a Name-1, Name-2, Name-3 and Name-4 on Bullroarer, by copying 3 toons with the same name I already had, and creating 2 more on servers just to copy. All of them received rename credits. Mind you it isn't a "token", but a credit that you get every time you log on in your notification tray, where your email and hobbit prezzies also are.

I am sorry, but am I being dim here?

I simply want to transfer 1 toon I have on Withywindle to Laurelin, yet the only world that appears in my transfer window is Laurelin and it quite clearly states 'select the server that you would like to transfer characters FROM'
Seems strange that the worlds that are closing are not included yet the ones that are remaining are.

I see these questions pop up from time to time, and either these people do not take the time to check all the official announcements regarding transfers, or turbine isn't doing a great job communicating the information out to the players..... I see the announcements in the announcements forum, but some people don't check there before they ask questions I guess

It's people being lazy - at least the more honest ones openly admit they are being lazy and don't want to search for an answer / skim through pages.....

Vyvyanne and Frelorn have done quite well in making sure the major transfer info is clearly found, as they show up in the official ANNOUNCEMENTS, as well as usually the first post in each thread of the Developer Diaries and Official Discussions.....

So what? I wouldn't want to "skim" 66 pages of this thread either. Since nobody requires you to answer, even though you take great delight in it, maybe just don't worry about it. Unless of course you're getting a paycheck from Turbine now?

Players just start their launcher and see this "Transfer" button. So they go "Great, now I can transfer my characters! Uh ... where are my characters?" and then they come to the forum to ask. They don't even know that there was an announcement.
I know they could start looking but not everyone does that.

I successfully transferred the (deleted) character to a different world, and the transfer utility lists it as on the new world. The interesting part is when I log into that world, I go to an empty character selection screen instead of automatically going to the character creation screen.

Hmm, that is interesting. I have deleted characters off only one live world. I now wonder what I will see when that world comes up for transfers for me.

I just looked under the "My Account" options. There is an option called Notification Preferences. I never looked at this option before, but I did now. It gives you the possibility to "Sign up to receive emails from Warner Bros.". Maybe that helps? Although I'm aware an account here on the site/forum, doesn't necessarily mean it's the same as your game account.

As for receiving the newsletters, I found an old newsletter and clicked the link to update my preferences. There I have the option to change my email address. It doesn't work though. I get an error message (There was an error saving your subscriber information. Please try again later.), so that wasn't helpful at all....

It seems not related to my game account though, so I doubt that it would help if it worked........

I've a few interesting things to note here.

It's always been hit or miss if I get newsletters. I've got a few over the years, but not all of them. I've never changed my email address and have no trouble receiving emails regarding store purchases, subscription changes, bug reports or ticket communiques.

I received email confirmations for both of my transfer attempts (and both were fully successful; chars are happily located on Landroval, coming from Gladden and Crick).

I checked that second link you provided and the box was NOT checked. I checked it and hit submit and received the following error:

"We are unable to process your request at this time. Please try again later."

So, not sure what all of this means, but I'm guessing the ability to receive the transfer emails doesn't have to do with that second link you provided, and it also may be unrelated to whether or not you get newsletters. I've gotten some over the years but not all -- it's always been hit or miss with those. Yet I had no trouble with the transfer notifications. It is quite odd.

I had almost the opposite issue. When I first checked, only Landroval, Gladden and Crick showed up (as I expected). I transferred all 4 off Gladden (successfully) and then 1 from Crick (successfully). Yet Gladden (now empty for me) still shows in the list, 2 days after I made the transfers. In fact, it lists Crick with 1, Laurelin with 1 (both correct), Evernight with 0 (never even logged in there to my knowledge), Gladden with 0, and Landroval with 19. That last bit puzzled me greatly at first, because I only have 18 characters on Landroval, and then I remembered I also have 1 warg stalker on Landroval, so that mystery in the very least is solved.

I tried transferring one, non-homeowner, non-kinleader lvl53 character from Landroval to Gladden this morning 1 hour ago. I have yet to receive e-mail confirmation. I am leery of trying to log into the game until I see this e-mail as I don't want to disrupt the process in any way. How long must I wait? Or should I try logging into the game anyway? even without confirmation?

Edit: I just looked at my character list in Launcher>Transfer and it does show one more on Gladden and one less on Landroval, but still no e-mail.
Edit: My profuse apology: I was checking the wrong e-mail. *blushes* It appears the e-mail was quite prompt. I may now be called "Conclusion Jumper".

Imladris is closing, so I figured I would bring over 1, let's count, *1* character to BW. Turns out you cannot Xfer to BW. So a guardian that I could continue to play, is now as useless as he is to me on Imladris. Sure, I could transfer him to another server I will never play, but why bother? They are closing the server he is on, so basically, he is pretty much lost to me, unless I wish to play on ANOTHER server where I have to cultivate new friends, new Kin, everything.

What a complete waste.

You could simply wait until they do open up Brandy for transferring onto it.
