I noticed in the past that all the quests blend in more nicely when they are done on level together with the normal questing. In that case we are visiting the places anyway. Of course this will not help a level 100 character who is done with those regions already but we have the knowledge about those regions and we probably have unlocked all means of travel already. So in that regard the last Bingo quest is not that difficult or time consuming once we know what to do.

    1. kill some Merrevails in the Fanged Pit
    2. swift travel to 21st Hall
    3. talk to the dwarves in the 21st Hall
    4. use the goat to port to the Hall of flowing Water
    5. continue to Anazarmekhem and beat some orcs on the way
    6. talk to the dwarf in Anazarmekhem
    7. swift travel or port back to 21st Hall (milestone, guide, muster).

I don't mind when it is better for a lower level. But having a 8minute timer is downright ridiculous. Sure, if I was on level, I could always grab another quest and do it in the meantime, but even then, I don't see the point of it.

I solved the issue by logging off and do it on another character (3of my character are doing the chain), and for the last I'm writing that meanwhile. But I shouldn't have to do that.

On a side note, did he make me find his manuscript pages, and wander in some of the most dangerous place of Middle Earth (lore wise) just for fun ? Next time, I let him drown.
I couldn't agree more the set up for this particular quest seemed designed to be frustrating.
Kill an unspecified number of Merrevails - I got 2 pages from them but killed a dozen more just to sure
Go to 21st Hall get 2 more
See that there are 2 in Anazarmekhem
So try to remember my way there and kill some orcs in the process - kill loads, in fact I get 8 pages from them, so suddenly there is only 1 page in Anazarmekhem.
Get that and then have to take a slow goat back due to lack of swift travel (Don't laugh I haven't been in Moria for years) so wander off to potter
Come back hand in quest, and then was stunned when the time popped up with 8 minutes. 8 seconds would have been enough.

At least there was a title as a reward this time, I'd missed the titles.

Also is there just the one Bert in Moria in Dolven View?

I agree completely, and I won't make excuses for it... beyond this one.

This quest was made more than a year ago, and at the time the novelty of being able to play Bingo's reading animation (on landscape! Not even in an instanced space! It's like we're living in the future!) seemed cool enough that I didn't really think the eight minutes was that offensive. Fast-forward to the release of Minas Tirith and the Epic Book where you wait for the scribe to copy down the resolutions of the Council of Gondor, and the really negative reaction to the waiting in that quest.

'Uh oh!' I say to myself, 'I'd better reduce the wait time on the timer events in the Ballad of Bingo Boffin!'

    So I did!

But I missed this one. Totally slipped my mind. You should have seen my face yesterday when Bingo asked me to wait, and it dawned on me that I hadn't remembered to reduce this particular timer. I took an MoL Apology Tour around the office.

So the end result is that I'll be reducing the timer to a much more reasonable time, though it might take awhile for the new version to go live.

And as a quick SPOILERY clarification for this week: Bingo probably should have said that he remembered after the *second* page he read, rather than the first. He didn't remember after reading the Dried Manuscript Page, but after reading the first page of the fully-collected set of pages. All that jaunting around Moria wasn't for nothing. :P

I have to disagree with this. Hover your mouse over the enemy and it will tell you whether or not you need to kill any more of them. It's pretty much a straight path to follow from Fanged Pit to Flaming Deeps - in which you will encounter every enemy/NPC you need along the way. Agree about the 8 minutes though.

Hehe, luckily, it wasn;t too bad in my opinion. A little annoying, yes - but since the rest of the quest lines have been so great, it didn;t take away from it for me.

Huh, that's actually how I read it anyway, I assumed he meant the first page of the completed book. I can totally see how it can be taken the other way though haha.

I didn't mind the 8 minute wait. I had time for a bio break and do a few other things. :-)

The eight minutes was a bit of a shock, but I used the time to sell the junk I had collected during the quest, put stuff in the bank, and check some auctions. Came back to Bingo with about 45 seconds left on the timer. :P

Oh, and now that we know there is a safe, direct route to Moria from the Misty Mountains - can we get a swift travel location from the hole in the ground there to the Fanged Pit? ;D

Do you take notes when you play when you run into things like this?

So far I've really been enjoying this but I'm a tiny bit sad that a lot of my lower level characters won't get to work on it for a long time.

Well, after this week's quest, I wanted to strangle Bingo... So, nice job on the writing.

Personally is don't mind the timers; they give me an opportunity to go AFK and do important things for a few minutes.

And to those having problems with the unspecified amounts of creatures to kill, you can mouse over the enemy and see if it still has quest listed on the tooltip. If it doesn't, you can move on.

FYI the 8 minute wait still ticks down even if you're not on that character. I used the opportunity to switch toons and take the Moria stroll for pages.

If I'm playing on my work computer during lunch I do take down notes and bugs in a text file, but from home I email them to myself, so sometimes I'll get to work in the morning and have emails from myself complaining about various things in-game. It's a real morale-booster!

    Dear MadeOfLions,

As a dedicated player, I have been in love with the prospect of LoTRO since its beginnings. I've enjoyed the game and everything it has to offer. Although, I do have some concerns regarding recent issues I've found in the game. I'll list these below:

    • Bingo needs more interaction with squirrels
    • There is a quest line in Gondor with too much running around
    • You have yet to fix the bug with the Shelob's Lair raid
    • The story of Rohan could be fleshed out more.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

    Signed,
    MadeofLions

    Mol,

Thanks for that! Needed the laugh this AM

Glad to see I'm not the only one that sends myself texts! A Shelob raid, eh? NICE!

(Maybe Minas Morgul, too? It's likely rather empty as their troops assault Minas Tirith)

After nearly nine years in LOTRO it's great to see a familiar face!

Oh, and I forgive you for the Minas Tirith run-around

I have enjoyed Bingo very much up until this week. Now I'm not sure I can continue. I hate Moria with the burning passion of 10,000 suns. It would take me hours, and way way too much frustration, to find these pages. I may have to just read along on the wiki for the rest of the way if there remains no option to skip to the next region.

You're in luck because it's super easy to get the pages. You don't even have to go anywhere special. I followed the guide (except for that "use the goat to port to Hall of Flowing water, because I didn't have it) and was done in no time. The majority of the pages you get from orcs anywhere. If you're on Landroval I'd be happy to lead you where you need to go!

It's too frustrating for me because I have never learned to navigate Moria now even in my 3rd time through it. I go to Lorien asap each time and use mithril to get to the 1st hall. I would never be able to get there on my own. Just no head for mazes, especially with different levels (height).

Maybe I will suck it up and try because if I get 3 or 4 weeks behind I know that'll be it for poor Bingo.

By guide do you mean the quest instructions? Because they offer little guidance to me.

I appreciate the offer of assistance, though I'm mostly on in the mornings US east and pretty much never at prime times.

No the guide here in this thread a couple pages back. Tells you exactly what you need to do to get the pages and where to go. There's no mazes involved, it's very straightforward. Moria questing has improved a lot if you haven't done it since the revamp. And I'm on all the time, so again, if you'd like a guide I'd be happy to assist.

    *edit* Here we go

Yay! I did it. Thanks for the encouragement. In all with 2 visits to Moria it took around an hour to an hour and a half. I'm sure it is no problem for those that know Moria. If it wasn't for all of the stable routes that I did have unlocked I know I would never have been able to do the quest. But again Moria is my issue/problem. I'm sure the quest is easy/fine for most people.

    2 pages short

I tried talking to Boi and Balk and do nothing towards the bingo quest line. Any ideas how to get the last 2 pages?
