Limited availability pets - What about completionists?

Apart from the fact you're a bit dramatic (a stab in the guts, my, my..), what is stopping you from getting the pet, like every other player?
I was away from the game for 6 weeks, and am currently on level 98 of the reward track, by simply playing the game.
I havent used a single exp rune yet...

I wish I knew how you manage that, as I play every day and have not yet made it halfway through one.
