Well, they usually turn the patch server on first. It might still be hours until the Worlds themselves gets back online, but I guess we'll have to wait and see ;)Quote:

It happened to me, I restarted the client and it worked.

if i'm not mistaken Servers are still offline, so that might be the case you are stuck on examine programs :)
I have the same problem. I was looking for the world status page to see if all the worlds are still down, but I can't find that either!
If all worlds are still down I bet that is the problem but...

Yeah, login server is offline so it can't proceed. As to downloading something first, I did as well... it was Microsoft Visual C++ somethingorother that installed. Probably an updated version used by the expansion and included as required software, those that didn't get an update probably already had the latest version of Visual C++ from somewhere (another program or Windows Update).
Been updating for past 20+ mins.
Update Game Data: (passed preloaded stage) now at 11% 1011/6200)
It also worked better at update game data after I restarted the client.
One of the previous downloads was a LOTRO.exe update, so figured to restart.
I doubt it was that, it looked like an actual patch. Last time i logged in was last wednesday. Launched today and got something that had 6400 files or so? Took a while (even with 5-6mb/s download speed) to download.
Where did you get that info from? I don't see any update in announcements nor in the patcher stating it's only going to be three hours downtime.
Well I computer finished the patch, but cant connect to servers. So it will be a while I suspect.
On a 2nd note, my 2nd PC is stuck at Examining Programs so it has not progressed in getting updates. Not sure what the story is about hat though.

Patience. Try configuring your user stats and page on this forum. You may find yourself putting your foot through your monitor and going out to walk the dog.
They won't allow access to the patch server till they have checked that the live game Works, do you really want to reinstall cause they find a late bug on the live servers and have to roll back till its fixed.
So you are stuck on examine programs as there is no remote version check as we don't have access to it yet.
Forget patching till much later, its 6-7am there currently so they have only just started. This isn't a quick job.
Examining programs has to check your system for all the files that it needs to make sure the launcher will run first, when everyone is trying to log in at the same time this causes the check to be much slower, just be patient it will all work out in the end!
Its 5am......7am EST, 6 to 8 more hrs til its up.

As I remember from the LAST big upgrade, this will be a longish process with several "Waiting" stages along the way. Just run it in the background so that when the updates are available, you will get them as quickly as congestion allows.

Keep the client 'waiting' it will begin for you as soon as the server-cluster can fit you in.

it does change update after examining although examining takes a couple minutes before it updates since even if u think its stuck on examining it really isnt its just loading everything before it updates which would take couple minutes before it starts updating

Well yeah, i patched everything, but when i was done, it gave me an error. Restarted the launcher and now im stuck at examine programs.

just let the client do the work. i was stuck at examine programs too but i'm done patching. you won't get on the gameservers anyway, they seem to be down (getting an errormessage).
after restarting the client i'm waiting again at examine programs :P
The patch servers always come up much faster than the game servers. Adding the new content to the game servers takes a lot of time and they have a process to test the stability of the servers and whatnot. Patch servers just hold data for us to download and don't perform the complex functions of running the game.
Was at 31% when the launcher crashed. Now I'm stuck at the same step.
Was stuck on examine programs for around 20 mins, so I restarted it and I'm still stuck on that part. I'll wait it out now...

also, shouldn't the launcher change skin to RoI when it goes live?
mine's after the update with the login errors, and the OLD (pre-RoI) skin.

I am still stuck on examine programs. I shall just leave it and go outside and hope it's started it's patching when I get back. :)
Simple answer:
There's a "Que"
You stand in line and wait your turn.
This prevents the servers from crashing.
This "Que" also happens when your logging into the server, thus prevents the server from crashing.
They implemented this way back in beta.

Third party tools are often inaccurate or do not read our flags correctly. They're a guess in other words.
Servers are not currently availalbe to players. However you may be able to patch your client. Though you should be aware that due to a large volume of players trying to patch all at once, you may encounter log wait times during the "examine" phase. If you are seeing this, we encourage you to close your launcher and try again in a few minutes. If you leave your launcher in this state it may time out and hang.

Expansion is being released. All servers are down.
That update on the blog thing seems to be broken, it's the same for others.

Also agree on the time frame query. Would love an answer I'm from Aus so the server went of at 5pm and still nothing its now 10.30pm :( all night no LOTRO makes me sad

Patch servers were taken off line for additional maintenance. We had not announced them as up and have not given an ETA. The expectation for the day should be, "When the game servers are up and they are announced as open, then they are up and open. And not before." :
