Back to my question, what was the name of the dog the first whale carried to see Valinor?

Rover? :P

Well I am, I must say, surprised no one's gotten it yet... Didn't think it was THAT hard...

And I haven't given the name of the whale because then you could cheat and look it up.

I got it. I believe you are under the common misconception that the dog's name is Roverandom, as that is the title of the book. However, the dog's name is Rover.

"Once upon a time there was a little dog, and his name was Rover. He was very small, and very young, or he would have known better; and he was very happy playing in the garden in the sunshine with a yellow ball, or he would never have done what he did."

I suppose it is a possibility that Rover was renamed Roverandom at some later point in the book, perhaps by the Man in the Moon or someone else. I don't remember, but I'm quite sure his name remained Rover throughout the whole book. Either way, his name (or one of his names) is Rover.
