Re: Rise of Isengard Update/Patching Discussion - OFFICIAL

I am in The Netherlands, I patched and CLOSED the launcher after that. I strongly suggest that EVERYBODY who has patched already does so and keep an eye on http://www.twitter.com/lotro to see when the worlds are back online. You don't have to have a twitter account to be able to see Turbine's status updates.

I think this way, you're be able to play sooner then when you sit around trying to re-launch the launcher after failing to login your realm. I also think it would be a good idea to warn people that game worlds are down on the launcher. I suspect a lot of people who finish patching re-launch their client because they couldn't log in the game like they normally would.

Well, one possible way to check is go into your install folder, and check the last modified date and time for the .dat files.

That is about the only thing I can think of.

I would assume there was not hundreds of problems with every patch on the EU servers. It's getting a tad annoying that we have no real fix for the issue we're having besides "Hang on and restart your launcher(Which rarely seems to be working) and no real time line for fixes or the servers coming up.
You know what they say about assumptions right?

I do agree that it is annoying, but I simply don't think this time around it is any worse, that's all. Obviously Turbine is working behind the scenes to get the servers up, and from what I can see some people are starting to get patched up, it's just trickling in at the moment with so many people trying at once. What with the increased population from all the F2P players and everything.

I guess we'll have to see just how long this takes and then decide whether it was noticeably worse than the other xpacs.

To patch up, is Pando a prerequisit to download the patch?

If disabled/removed will the game still patch?

Patching is up, but taking forever because of so many people doing it at once.
Game servers will be up possibly later today, but I'd hedge my bets on being there tomorrow. Not that they won't necessarily be up today, but it's going to be a long time coming yet, patching still going on and all.
There's no way to really know until they can announce it (and I doubt they can yet)

You shouldn't need to have Pando installed or working in any fashion. This is just like any other normal client patch.

Yes true, but for the sake of prioritizing what is important right now it would be nice to put this PR on hold and have that feed dedicated wholly to the patch issue with info and updates etc.

The situation just doesn't seem to be getting any better, especially when connection failures all day will now be confounded by an even greater demand with most of Europe coming back from work right about now and trying to log in and patch.

Pando is not needed/desired/involved in the patch. You dont need or want it.

No offence but I wish all these People moaning and whining about the patcher would just get over themselves and wait patient like me and the silent majority.

You will get patched at some point, just realise how many people are trying to do their patching at the same time.

If you have limited bandwidth you should plan timing accordingly.
While I am nowhere near geeky enough to be able to explain the flaws in that statement, I can say with certainty that you don't understand the situation. (I'm not claiming to fully understand it myself, but I have some notion...)

In order for LoTRO to be 'prepared' for this situation in a way that would please each and every user, they would have to have one connection available to the patch server for each and every LoTRO account holder, in perpetuity. I'm sure someone with better technical savvy than me can explain why that is not feasible.

Or are you suggesting that Turbine should have made up a schedule, and said, "Okay, those of you in the Eastern Time Zone, download your patches between 8 and 10 - Pacific Time, don't log on until after 10"? Because yeah, I'm sure NO ONE would jump the gun and rush in prematurely. Or miss their allotted patch time due to RL responsibilities. Et cetera.

Yeah, it's a bummer that I took my level 48 to the south gate so I could see the new content, and now might not be able to rush in recklessly for awhile. But it's not unexpected, and it's most definitely NOT a failure on Turbine's part, at least from all available evidence. It's a matter of releasing new content, alongside a surge of new and returning players - I've met too many of these new & returning players over the last few weeks; RoI has brought a LOT of people into the game, or back to the game - and now we have a traffic jam: everyone's trying to get to the Civic Center for the Big Show, and there are only so many streets to take them there, and only so many parking spaces once they arrive, and there is only so much that can be done about that.

    TL;dr: Chill.

Nope, I got the big package right away.. and still stuck at examine progroms..... Besides it would be detected via account

Would be nice if it was like that..just one more reason to donate money when a new expansion is to be launched.

This may sound cold, but the answer is simple. Luck. It has nothing to do with IP addresses or physical location. It's pure and simple luck. It might interest you to know that it impacts us here in the building as well. So those folks who came in late this AM are in the same queue as you are.

Not in such specific terms no, but in terms of maximum performance this is at least partly right.

The two things are completely unrelated. There is nothing to 'fix'. As people get patched and no longer are using the resources others will get in and be able to patch. We have reallocated a number of servers to bolster the performance of the patch servers and serve as many players as possible. The only way to 'fix' it is to be patient.

Also, as a reminder, the game servers are NOT up at this time.
